About
Founded over 40 years ago, Living Word is a non-denominational body of believers who simply want Jesus above all else, and who have a heart to encounter God and carry the effects of that encounter into the world. The Word is taught here for the purpose of equipping the body of Christ, we are constantly in prayer, and we do not hold back in our worship. Most of Living Word’s worship music is original, as we desire what God wants to speak that is specific to our body so we can get a firm grasp on His heart and will for our lives.
Leadership
Headed by Senior Pastors Josh and Bailey Cotts, the leaders of Living Word work together to equip and empower the members of the body of Christ with the tools necessary for personal growth, community building, and cultural transformation.
Josh and Bailey Cotts
Senior PastorsJosh and Bailey Cotts currently serve as the Lead Pastors of Living Word. At the age of 9, Josh already knew he wanted to be a pastor. He had a love for people and community that naturally drew people to him. He began leading worship and writing worship music and lyrics at the age of 12, and he continues to do that to this day. Bailey, the daughter of former lead pastors Clif and April Briscoe, grew up in Living Word, and even served as the Youth Worship Pastor for several years. Her heart for community, and her natural ability to make anyone feel welcome and at home has influenced her desire and ability in the area of pastoring. Josh and Bailey married in May of 2014, and they have served in ministry together ever since. After serving as the Worship Pastors of Living Word, and then as its Youth Pastors and Associate Pastors for 5 years, Josh and Bailey accepted the role of Lead Pastors over Living Word in January of 2020, as Clif and April finished decades of faithful commitment to the body of Christ and Shawnee.
April Briscoe
Associate PastorApril has been a dedicated pastor’s wife for many years, serving the body of Living Word Church in multiple capacities. She has been a praise team leader, singer, and drummer, as well as supervising the sound for Living Word’s worship team. In addition to April’s church responsibilities, she was a school teacher for over 30 years in grades 1st through 8th, and Special Education. She founded an after school mentoring program for middle school students affectionately called “The Rock” and is currently employed with Seminole State College as a coordinator for “Gear Up.” With all of these responsibilities, April has raised four beautiful daughters and is lavishing her broad experience and love for life on her eight grandchildren. She is currently serving at Living Word as an Associate Pastor.

They have led mission outreaches from the streets of Shawnee to Jamaica, Belize, Mexico, and Cayman Islands. They have been blessed with three sons and two daughters. Dave and Kimberly were the Youth Pastors of Living Word for 16 years before handing over the reins to the current Senior Pastors, Josh and Bailey Cotts, who then handed off the leadership of the youth group to Living Word’s current Youth Pastors, Nate and Jordan Shipman. Clif Briscoe
Rapha Prayer and Healing CenterClif Briscoe graduated with Honors from the University of Oklahoma and Oral Roberts University, where he completed a Masters of Divinity. He had a radical encounter with Jesus at twenty years of age, and three years later experienced the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and established Living Word Church in Shawnee, OK where he pastored for over four decades. His ministry has taken him to the streets of his city, to television and radio in central Oklahoma, and to the nations of the world in Albania, Mexico, India, Ghana, Nicaragua, Argentina, and Jamaica. He now heads up Living Word’s “Rapha Prayer and Healing Center,” a ministry dedicated to praying for the health and prosperity of individuals, businesses, and the city of Shawnee.
Don and Janice Sanchez
Rapha Prayer and Healing CenterDon and Janice Sanchez have been serving at Living Word as Elders and head over its prayer ministry for several years now. They not only serve the body in guidance and prayer, but Don also helps with ushering, and Janice consistently serves in the areas of cooking, cleaning, and maintaining church supplies. They hold daily prayer meetings on campus, and it is evident that Living Word would not be where it is today without their constant support in prayer.
History
Living Word Church began under the pastoral leadership of Clif Briscoe over 4 decades ago in Shawnee, OK. Clif and his wife, April Briscoe, dedicated their lives to establishing a faithful community of believers in Shawnee, and a church body where the word of God is preached and the love of God is expressed. After over 40 years of faithful ministry, Clif and April handed off their legacy to Josh Cotts and his wife, their daughter, Bailey, in January of 2020. Josh and Bailey now serve as the Lead Pastors of Living Word, working to maintain the vision and dreams of the past, while igniting new vision for the future.
Core Values
Community
We are a family of believers, always striving for fellowship with one another, so that we can be a strong example of love and community to the world.Cultural Transformation
We believe that we were mandated to create a culture that is representative of the image of God, so we commit our own lives to the image of Jesus, that the world might see and desire the culture of His Kingdom through us.Discipleship
We make disciples, not converts. Our mission is not only to lead people to Jesus, but to lead them through Him by consistently walking with them through their initial stages of growth so that they might grow strong enough to disciple others.Evangelism
We are a church that is less concerned about having church and more concerned about being the church, rather we fulfill the call of Jesus by committing ourselves to finding the lost and leading them to Him.Generosity
We train our minds to think like Jesus, in that everything we receive from God, both natural and spiritual, is meant to be given to those around us. We work and pray for the prosperity of our city.Healing
We believe that healing, both natural and spiritual, is the will of God, and our faith is always present to give ample opportunity to the moving of the Holy Spirit in signs, wonders, and miracles.Honor
We bond ourselves together with honor, always preferring one another above ourselves, unabashedly supporting our leadership and government with prayer and kind words, and abolishing competition by celebrating the accomplishments of others.Maturation
We seek every opportunity to grow beyond where we are at, not limiting ourselves to where we were yesterday, that we might look more every day like Jesus, resembling His character, His actions, and His thought processes.Prayer
We believe in the power of prayer to provide God an open door for His will to be done on the earth, transforming cities and nations, healing every kind of sickness and disease, and aligning our purposes with His.Spiritual Gifts
We strive to create a place where all varieties of spiritual gifts can manifest because we know that what God has given us does not belong to us, but to the body.Unity
We are united by our mutual need for Jesus and our mutual need for one another – refusing to be divided by unnecessary offense, empty opinions, and unwholesome talk – and we seek covenantal relationship with the body of Christ, even outside our own walls.Worship
We worship God inside and out. Our worship is not limited to an internal encounter, but extends beyond that to an external sacrifice of passionate, joyful dance and praise to the King.
Ministries
The various ministries at Living Word all work together to accomplish one thing: the equipping of all generations of believers to further the Kingdom of God outside the four walls of the church.
Encounter Youth Ministries
Formerly “Reach Youth Ministries” under the leadership of Dave and Kimberly Powis for over a decade, “Encounter Youth Ministries” began under the leadership of Josh and Bailey Cotts in 2015 and has been under the leadership of Nate and Jordan Shipman since early 2020. “Encounter” seeks to equip the youth of this generation with the wisdom, knowledge, and skills they need to reach the lost, while maintaining a deep hunger for the presence and spirit of God. Nate and Jordan hold weekly youth services every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for ages 12-18.
Rapha Prayer and Healing Center
What began as a place where anyone with a need could come to receive prayer and healing has now turned mobile as Pastor Clif Briscoe fulfills his God-given mandate to “pastor the city” by reaching out to businesses and residential areas and offering love and prayer to anyone who needs and wants it. Clif faithfully sets out every day to minister to those in need.

David's Tent Internship
What is David's Tent?
The goal of David’s Tent is to submerge worshippers (Ages 12+) in an atmosphere where their heart for worship can grow and flourish, and to equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to develop their ability to lead worship, write songs, operate in the prophetic, and intercede for the nations. The "6 pegs" of David's Tent
Worship - Students will spend a lot of time engaging in worship together, with each of them participating in the leadership of worship in one way or another. They will be exhorted and encouraged to “break out” in their worship, learning what it means to truly give Jesus everything.
Worship Leadership - Students will be equipped with practical tools and wisdom for the leadership of worship in a corporate setting. Core values of leadership, humility, and courage will be engrained in them in order to prepare them for the weighty but rewarding burden of leading worship.
Prophetic Worship - Using the Word, students will be taught how to operate in prophetic, spontaneous song during worship with the knowledge that the prophetic gift is accessible and should be desired by all believers.
Songwriting - Students will be equipped with useful tools and techniques for developing a natural songwriting ability. Techniques that will be taught include lyrical techniques, rhyming techniques, and musical/dynamic techniques.
Studying the Word - At the heart of the prophetic is the Word of God. As such, students will be equipped with tools and methods for studying the Word and uncovering the mystery and revelation that is often hidden in Its words. This will further propel them into the gift of the prophetic.
Prayer and Intercession - Students will be taught and participate in the “harp and bowl” method, which effectively partners prayer and intercession with worship. This will further develop their ability to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit during worship and move into spontaneous song.
